Notes: Blackberries, Molasses and Nutmeg
Farmer: Erika Obando
Region: El Aguila, Valle del Cauca
We selected this coffee (microlot) on our visit to Colombia last year and instantly fell in love with the brilliant and fresh notes that are prominent with every sip. It has the sharpness of blackberries, the sweetness of molasses and the earthiness from nutmeg – a great blend of notes that hang together really well. A real special find, so we picked up the entire lot!
Erika Obando lives in the farm La Divina with her husband Milton Betancourt. Erika has had relentless focus on enhancing the quality of her coffee and at just 28 years old, she is an active member of the youth program of Asotatama El Aguila Association which is composed of 17 more young members. She is in charge of most of the QC for the El Aguila regional lots of coffee. With her knowledge she has been processing the coffee of her farm with the help of Milton. Together they have implemented a 48 hour fermentation protocol for their harvest and most of the coffee has rendered great results. The rest of the process is done the traditional way with 15 days drying time and post-approval it is bagged in Grain pro bags to maintain the quality.
